Library and information science (LIS) is evolved due to the merging and integration of two separate fields i.e., library science and information science. Interdisciplinary nature of LIS according to the identification of some scholars has been highlighted and also meaning and characteristics of interdisciplinary study has been pointed out here shortly. Brief descriptions have made about the concept of category or category analysis—a vital fundamental base of LIS field and interdisciplinary nature of the field has been interpreted here with the inherent interdisciplinary nature of category.
