Abstract

The study examined the integration of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology in Enugu State secondary school libraries to enhance literacy level among students. The research design adopted for this study was Descriptive Survey Design. The population of the study is derived from ten (10) schools from each of the six (6) education zones in Enugu State. The intended population was 1, 044, 890 students and 60 school/teacher librarians, but Taro Yamane's formula resulted in 399 students and 52 school/teacher librarians. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection, and the collected data were analyzed using frequency, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that Educational Robotics Kits, AI-Powered Personalized Learning Platform, Big Data Analytics Tool, and other technologies need to be integrated in the secondary school libraries in Enugu State. While certain skills like Digital Literacy, problem-solving skills, collaboration skills, adaptability, information literacy, etc are needed to effectively utilize these technologies, and among many positive impacts of the integration of these technologies are enhanced learning, improved learning, customized learning, virtual learning encouragement, and others.

Despite these benefits, significant challenges such as infrastructure limitations, inadequate resources, funding issues, teacher readiness, digital security and privacy concerns, resistance to change, cultural and linguistic challenges, and limited access and maintenance problems hinder the effective integration of 4IR technology. The study recommends that teacher professional development, accessibility and maintenance measures, content localization, infrastructure improvement, cyber security measures, proper funding allocation, among other measures will encourage the integration of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology in Enugu State secondary school libraries in order to enhance literacy level among students.
