Abstract
The study was conducted on the influence of social media marketing on the utilization of library resources and services by undergraduate students in universities in Kwara State. the study formulated used four research questions and adopted simple random sampling method to select the sample population for this study out of two thousand eight hundred and ten (2810) of the entire population. A survey method was used in undertaking the study, in which answers were sought on the determine the library resources and services marketed to undergraduate students using social media in university libraries, social media used by undergraduate students for accessing library resources and services, the perception of undergraduate students to the use of social media in marketing library resources and services in universities, and the problems affecting the use of social media in marketing library resources and services in universities in Kwara State. Questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection and the data collected from the study were analyzed using (SPSS), frequency tables and percentage. User education (orientation/instruction services), Photocopying services, Abstracting and indexing services and Extension/ community services as the library resources and services marketed to undergraduate students using social media in university libraries; and social media used by undergraduate students for accessing library resources and services majority of the respondents indicated that Telegram, YouTube, Google plus, Pinterest and Twitter, Instagram, Myspace and Skype respectively while SNTs can require considerable time commitment from library staff, Limited fund, Lack of maintenance, Bandwidth problem, Lack of Awareness are the major problems affecting the use of social media in marketing library resources and services in universities, while majority of respondent disagree with Lack of training of staff. In conclusion the study made some recommendations which include that: Library staff should be trained and re-train to acquire the technical know-how of the various social media tools.
