Abstract

Purpose

The paper represents the country-wise distribution and ranking of LIS journals which are published in Asiatic Region through the medium of the Scimago Journal & Country Rank. The work can give idea about the current position and scenario of the Asian LIS journals. The paper can help the researchers and Library professionals to choose the journal of their choice, to publish the article on the journals and to know about the quality and prestige of the journal.

Methodology

This study was based on Scopus’s SJR database. The relevant data of 15 LIS journals in Asiatic Region was analysed and discussed on different parameters.

Findings

SJR score of LIS journals in Asiatic Region are varied from 0.120 to 0.281. Data of LIS journals from Asiatic Region are analysed and discussed in details in this paper. H-Index of the Asian LIS journals varied from 6 to 18. India is leading with regard to the ranking with uppermost SJR of 0.281 for “DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology”, whereas, Japan attained 0.104 for journal “Library and Information Science”.

Originality/value

The study monitors renowned journals of the Asiatic Region's LIS journals of SJR database, ranks them, measures their quality, and to help library professionals and researchers.
