Abstract

Abstract

The study explored information literacy and utilization of mobile technology for enhanced Postgraduate students’ academic performance in federal universities in north central Nigeria. It recognizes the importance of mobile devices in accessing information and fostering communication, especially in regions where their use is increasing among educators and students. The study highlights the potential of mobile technology to offer immersive learning experiences and access to resources, but it also acknowledges challenges such as inconsistent internet connectivity and the digital divide. The research also investigated various aspects related to mobile technology and information literacy among postgraduate students, including mobile device ownership, types of devices owned, the effectiveness of information literacy in utilizing mobile technology, its impact on academic performance, challenges faced, and strategies to overcome these challenges. Review of Related Empirical Studies: Studies in Nigeria and Turkey have shown the positive impact of information literacy skills and mobile technology on academic performance and motivation. Findings suggest a correlation between students' computer hardware skills and their use of electronic information resources in university libraries, as well as a positive relationship between information literacy skills and electronic resource utilization among postgraduate students. Conclusively, the study identifies critical issues such as information literacy gaps, disparities in access to technology, and challenges related to internet connectivity and digital literacy. It emphasizes the need for investment in infrastructure, efforts to bridge the digital divide, financial assistance, technological literacy training, information literacy education, professional development for educators, and privacy and security measures. Recommendations includes: Investment in infrastructure to improve internet connectivity, Bridging the digital divide by providing access to mobile devices and training, Implementing financial assistance programs for students, Offering technological and information literacy training, Incorporating information literacy education into the curriculum and Providing professional development for educators, Implementing robust privacy and security measures.
