Abstract

This investigation has been made in order to determine the solubility relationships between isobutyl alcohol, benzene, and water at 25°C. The present investigation is one of a series of studies of systems containing a lower alcohol, benzene, and water. In this series the following systems have been studied: methyl alcohol-benzene-water, ethyl alcohol-benzene-water, isopropyl alcohol-benzene-water, n-butyl alcohol-benzene-water. Thus a comparison of the solubility and distribution data of the system isobutyl alcohol-benzene-water with that of the other systems and a comparison of the physical properties of the alcohols will be of interest. It is hoped that the accumulation of comparable data of this kind will be useful in developing the theory of solubility.
