Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was threefold: (1) to examine the organisms found in the rumen of the bovine fed a ration with a high content of corncobs; (2) to compare the value of this ration with one containing hay and corn with respect to the well-being of the animal and the activity of its microflora; (3) to study in vitro the qualitative and quantitative production of fatty acids by the rumen microflora of an animal fed this ration.
