Abstract
This is a study of the East Texas oil field with particular reference to Kilgore as typical of the change that comes with an oil boom. There is nothing that revolutionizes the thinking and actions of people like a boom. The transient group of Kilgore has gone – the speculator and the quick-change traders, but there remains the stable group of oil field workers, the supply store employees who furnish East Texas with oil field equipment, the refinery operator, and the pioneers – all these groups have contributed to the transformation of Kilgore.
