In Search of The Jamun Tree

Nina Schmieder, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Searching for a reflection of the truth in stories woven out of bits and pieces of the past—and where unbridgeable gaps exist—using fiction to arrive at a simulacrum, only to realize that in the end truth doesn't really matter. Such was my journey into the murky past of one woman--my mother--to discover the secret surrounding my birth. By the time my journey ended I had little proof of the facts but had learnt a lot more of the truth.
