An Evaluative Study of the Trimester Plan

RICHARD DALE MACE, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The increased emphasis placed on the need for a higher education has brought about additional pressure on institutions of higher education. The long summer vacation was once considered to be a necessity of an agrarian society; however, the need for students to work on the farms during the summer, which was a basic reason for a long summer vacation period, has disappeared. Yet, many institutions of higher learning still close their doors and let their plants and equipment stand idle for three months each year. The need for more space, equipment, and faculty to meet increasing enrollments is becoming greater with each new year.
