AN ANALYSIS OF MUSIC PROGRAMS TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT TO WHICH THEY ARE APART OF GENERAL EDUCATION

PAUL FREDRICK HALL, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

For a considerable number of years, music educators and leaders in education generally have emphasised the point that music education should become an integral part of education for all boys and girls. This emphasis represents a protest against the practice of conducting music education for the benefit of a relatively few who are talented and strongly interested in music; it calls attention to the contribution of music to the enrichment of the lives of all.
