HISTORY AND THE SOCIAL SCIENCES IN NEBRASKA PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS DURING THE QUARTER CENTURY OF THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE MOVEMENT, 1892-1918
Abstract
One of the most important and novel developments in contemporary historical writing which has broadened history from its previous interests that centered on church and state has been the growing interest in the history of human life and culture.Within the last half century historical writing has become concerned with studies such as intellectual history, the history of science, history of technology, economic history, general cultural history, legal history, and social history. Not only have these fifty years seen the scope of the historian broadened but the volume of scholarly work has also increased. Yet, manyareas are still filled with wide gaps or complete voids. The history of education during the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first of the twentieth is one of these.
