APPLICATION OF BEHAVIORAL CONTINGENCY MANAGEMENT TO AN INDUSTRIAL SETTING.

ROBERT LOUIS OTTEMANN, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

After the Hawthorne studies hundreds of additional studies have attempted to identify characteristics of a good supervisor. Efforts have been made to train supervisors to exhibit various identified characteristics. Specific training methods have been set up to teach supervisors to develop the desired characteristics. Literature is replete with these techniques, procedures for training supervisors outstrip any other area of training in attracting attention of researchers. Unfortunately, results of much traditional supervisory training have been disappointing. Empirical studies on the effectiveness of traditional supervisory training programs found few if any to be of value to organizational effectiveness.
