A COMPARISON OF ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTIONS OF STUDENTS, THEIR PARENTS, AND PROFESSIONAL STAFF AT HASTINGS COLLEGE.

KENNETH ROY RHODUS, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Establishing and maintaining certain values for the educational, social, and personal development of students has been a major goal of institutions of higher learning throughout the United States. Eddy found that the value systems at work within the various institutions were markedly different from each other, which affected the stated objectives and goals of the college.Historically, attempts were made in universities and colleges throughout the country to create environments which were perceived as conducive to educational, social, and personal development. Until the late 1950's descriptions and evaluations of such environments were almost non-existent due to the lack of effective measuring devices.
