A COMPARISON OF TWO APPROACHES TO SHORTHAND HOMEWORK.

ROMA JEAN MANSFIELD, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

By the time a student reaches the second semester of shorthand, the excitement of learning a new skill has worn off and the routine of the procedures may lead to boredom and less active interest in building skill through practice procedures out of class. Moreover, the single routine of copying from the shorthand plates limits opportunity for the student to enter into the practice procedure, to establish learning goals, or to become a self-directed learner.
