THE SYSTEMATIC VALIDATION PROCESS FOR QUEUEING APPROXIMATIONS THROUGH SIMULATION AND A STUDY ON THE GI/G/1 QUEUE WITH FEEDBACK
Abstract
A review of literature indicated that the approximation approach recently appeared to be a major concern in the study of queueing problems. Concerning the validation for queueing approximation, however, not enough attention has been paid to the quality of the validation technique itself. The primary purpose of this research was to enrich the quality of the validation in queueing approximation. The disadvantages of the common procedure used to validate queueing approximations are discussed. As an attempt to rectify those deficiencies, a systematic process has been developed as presented in this dissertation. This systematic process has shown a new direction for validating queueing approximations through simulation. Simulation experiments, Spearman rank correlation analysis and simple linear regression are performed sequentially. Then statistical inferences regarding the validity of a queueing approximation formula can be obtained. The developed process has been implemented and the applicability has been demonstrated with respect to the approximations for the feedback queueing system under the GI/G/1 condition.
