Application of the complex variable solution to some problems in linear elastic materials with voids

Deborah Joanne Wilson, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The similarity between the temporal solution of the equations of the plane theory of linear elastic materials with voids and the equations of plane theory of thermoelasticity is noted. The complex variable solution, a method for solving two dimensional thermoelasticity problems, is applied to plane theory problems in a linear elastic material with voids. The complex variable solution is applied to an infinite plate which contains a circular hole of radius a and is subjected to a uniaxial tensile stress at infinity. A hollow cylinder subjected to internal and external pressure is also analyzed.
