An approach to adapting mobility analyses to digital computer evaluation

Abstract

A digital computer program, written in Microsoft QuickBASIC, was developed to aid in the analysis of the mobilities of planar linkages. The computing environment was MS-DOS computers with "enhanced graphics adaptor (EGA)" or better screen graphic capability. The program was developed as a "demonstration of concept" program to make a "digital computerization" of the method of "Reshetov's Mobility Diagram". Concepts of the "loop matrix" and "mobility matrix" were developed as an aid to efficient computation. The mobility matrix was structured to be a close parallel concept to "Reshetov's Mobility Diagram". "Screen graphic" techniques were utilized as an aid to data input and output. The program utilized the concept of reducing all ternary and higher order links to binary link equivalents. Enhancement to the fundamental method of the diagram approach was developed to account for functional constraints. A glossary of significant terms which can be generally applied in mobility analysis was created. The glossary definitions were designed to favor computational techniques used in the computer program.
