ReNae S Kehrberg, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The purpose for conducting this study was to examine the perceptions of school administrators, counselors and teachers in the Omaha Public Schools of what existed in nonsexist multicultural education. The population consisted of all teachers, counselors and administrators in the Omaha Public Schools, Omaha, Nebraska. Participants responded to a questionnaire, "An Assessment of Nonsexist Multicultural Education," to provide their perceptions of what existed. Five major findings resulted from the data analysis. (1) Teachers, counselors and administrators were supportive of nonsexist multicultural education. (2) Female educators were more supportive of nonsexist multicultural education than were male educators. (3) There was no difference among the perceptions of educators based on their race regarding nonsexist multicultural education. (4) Administrators were more supportive of nonsexist multicultural education than were teachers or counselors. (5) Elementary educators were more supportive of nonsexist multicultural education than were junior high or secondary high educators.
