Mary Ann Welch Bendezu, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

This historical study described some of the experiences of students of color in the public schools of a midwest city during the years 1954 to 1974. The official policies and traditional practices of the school board and other community entities toward students of color were presented through the content analysis of interviews with former and present officials of the school district, teachers, former students and their parents, community members, and archival material from school district, city, and private records.
