Applying the theory of planned behavior to predict and explain school psychologists' use of the consultation model

Abstract

This study employed the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to predict school psychologists' use of the consultation model, and delineate the underlying belief system with regard to consultation use. A national sample of 284 school psychologists selected randomly from the 1997 NASP membership list responded by mail to the CAQ, a self-administered questionnaire. Results indicated the TPB variables were statistically significant predictors of school psychologists' intentions to consult and their self-reported use of consultation. This study rendered an encouraging profile of school psychologists' belief systems, suggesting predominantly positive beliefs about the daily use of consultation.
