Everyday problems of the elementary school teacher, as reported by five hundred and three teachers in the eighteen larger schools of Nebraska

William Henry Morton, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Only a few attempts have been made to discover the problems of the classroom teacher, and most of these which have been printed have been concerned with the high school rather than the elementary school. Most of these studies discuss problems secured from other sources than the teacher herself. These problems usually have been proposed by supervisors, principals, superintendents, or college teachers. These writers note problems which come to their attention and in which they are most interested. Each one is concerned about special type problems. The principal may be emphasizing pupil discipline and the general problems of classroom management; the supervisor may be looking for those problems which have their origin in subject matter or method; the superintendent may be over- enthusiastic about the problems involving the relationship of parent and community; and the college teacher likely will be more concerned about the application of some principle or special method or some phase of subject matter. The class- room teacher meets all of these problems and many more. They are all her problems, presenting themselves for immediate solution.
