A survey of the social opinions of three generations

Ivil James Montgomery, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Never before in the history of mankind have the facilities for communication been as adequate as they are today. We have progressed a long way from the time when the happenings of the day were shouted by the town crier, or carried from home to home by an itinerant peddler. The president of the United States speaks and his voice is heard in a million homes. A military dictator delivers an ultimatum and nations everywhere are at once informed. Today science not only makes it easy to learn the opinions of prominent personages, but also makes it possible for them to thrust their opinions upon us. The radio, news reels, loud speakers and public address systems, make it almost impossible to escape hearing their views.
