A revision of the trematode family, Aspidogastridae, Poche

Susanne Parsons, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

In the fall of 1913, Dr. Franklin D. Barker turned over to me for study, a number of trematodes, which he had secured from the small intestine of Malacoolemmys lesusurii Gray, taken on the Mississippi river, at Fair- port, Iowa. A study of the morphology of this parasite was undertaken with the object of its identification. A superficial examination showed it to belong to the 1907- family Aspidogastridae Poche, In attempting to classify it farther, such confusion in the synonomy and honon- omy, such difference in opinion in regard to what gen- era belong in the family, and such meagre descriptions on the part of different investigators was found that it seemed advisable to undertake a complete revision of the family.
