Abstract

This chapter documents climate-related impacts that occurred in the United States (Fig. 13.1) during 1982-83. Many of these impacts have been rightly or wrongly attributed to El Niño. The impacts of the summer drought and heat wave in the central United States and the decline of the fishing industry along the northwestern coast of the United States are discussed in greater detail.
