The Great Plains region is typified by strong climatic gradients, fertile carbon-storing soils, and important agricultural and grassland systems. The GPRC is devoted to supporting research that develops quantitative information on the role of key ecosystems as sources or sinks of carbon dioxide. Through understanding gained by the research it supports, the GPRC will provide scientific information required to assess the consequences of climate change on soil, physical, and biological resources within the region.
