Abstract
The development of modern technology, including the invention of paper, ink, and modern communication, led to the emergence of modern days archives. This study examines the availability of archival records in five public archives agencies in the Northwestern states of Nigeria. It also explores how archivists and records managers have taken intellectual control of the archival records. The patterns of use or services provided to users of archival records were also examined and reported in this study. The study uses a questionnaire to collect data from the staff of the five public archival agencies. The data collected reveals the availability of five public archival agencies. Access to or use of the records in these public archival agencies is provided through different archival services including search room services, information services, exhibition services, and many others.
