Abstract
The wet valley or lake country centering in Grant County is the area of main concern in this paper.In addition to Grant County this area includes northern Arthur, eastern Garden and Sheridan, and southwestern Cherry counties.Any attempt to confine the paper to county boundaries would necessitate dealing with portions of ranches, creating a fragmentary picture.Therefore this paper describes primarily the development of the cattle industry in the lake country.Situations and opinions are drawn from that area, but many of the descriptions are true of the Sandhills as a whole.
