Abstract

The United States is one of the most affluent nations in the world, yet a tragedy exists in the midst of this affluence in the fact millions of people suffer from extensive socio-economic deprivation. Although there remained much controversy over whether a vicious cycle of poverty existed, to the poverty-stricken and the disadvantaged, the question was academic.
