Abstract
The purpose of this project, on a basal level, was to offer a variety of new translations to the literature. However, on a deeper level, the purpose of this project was to give Puerto Rico and its people their agency. Puerto Rico is commonly stereotyped among Americans as a popular tourist destination. This project seeks to begin erasing that stereotype and instead replace it with the rich culture, people, language, struggles, triumphs, and survival that the Puerto Rican people have experienced throughout their history. The poems included in this anthology were selected from recent anthologies written by well-known contemporary Puerto Rican poets. The 16 selected poems represent a collection that demonstrates a common theme: bodily awareness.
