Abstract
Adults of Omosita colon (Linnaeus) (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae: Nitidulinae), collected on goat (Capra aegagrus hircus (Linnaeus)) carcasses in the post-decomposition and skeleton stages, represent the first report of this species on carrion for Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. For this region of Mexico, it is suggested that O. colon is a potential indicator in forensic entomology to determine approximate time of death of a person or animal. A general description of the genus and taxonomic characteristics for species identification are presented.
