Abstract

This paper discusses the provision of library and information services to Nigerians in the twenty first century and how to overcome the challenges associated with it. The particular issues addressed include: classification of the information user communities, planning considerations, challenges, and consequently the way forward. It concludes that the provision of library and information services to Nigerians is a critical requirement for Nigeria's development, and the numerous challenges identified are surmountable through the strategies enumerated in which proactive approaches by the library and information professionals themselves are the most crucial.
