Spring Drought Outlook (3/23/00)

Date of this Version

March 2000

Abstract

According to the National Weather Service, the United States is in the midst of a worsening drought, following the warmest winter on record. Several southern states experienced their driest February and the Spring outlook released this week appears bleak. "The drought of 1999 remains with us in the new century and our data indicate conditions are probably going to get worse before they get better," said Secretary William Daley of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
