ABSTRACT:
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the difference between "leading for diversity" and "diversity leadership." By examining the organizational basis for leadership in formal organizations, the authors demonstrate that leadership practices in higher education must be crafted to utilize diversity as a social force for change rather than utilizing diversity as a social factor in organizati~nal adaptability.
