Abstract
Evidence is presented that enzymatic differences exist between etiolated shoots from appropriately irradiated maize seeds and shoots from control seeds. Differences in specific activities of acid phosphatase and peroxidase became apparent only when individual portions (first internode, coleoptile, and unexpanded foliage leaves) of the shoot were considered. Contributions of the three shoot portions to total activities of acid phosphatase, peroxidase, and polyphenolase also were studied, and irradiation-induced differences in the patterns of contribution were noted.
