Abstract

Preliminary screening of various strains of Lactobacillus bulgaricus for antibiotic production revealed that strain DDS 14 produced an antibiotic. This particular strain was checked for purity, and it was found to be a pure culture. Also, based upon its microscopic examination, growth characteristics and several biochemical tests, the organism was found to be a typical L. bulgaricus.
