Abstract

El lector más casual de Amado Nuevo no puede menos de notar que el amor es un tema de mucha importancia en su obra. Sin embargo, a pesar de haberse escrito mucho acerca del poeta, es de extrañarse que la crítica haya dedicado tan poca atención a este aspecto de su obra. ¿Por qué tal descuido? ¿Por qué consideran los críticos que este tema se encuentra tan ligado a sus dudas acerca de los misterios de la vida y a su misticismo? Cualquiera que sea la respuesta a estas preguntas, fue el descuido aludido el que me impulsó a emprender este estudio del admirado poeta mexicano. Además mucho llamó mi atención que Nervo, quien se formó en un ambiente católico y conservador, acabó por aceptar los valores estéticos del movimiento modernista, los cuales no coincidían siempre con los de su ambiente familiar y escolar.

Con el objeto de investigar el papel que desempeñó el amor en la obra de Nervo, emprendí este estudio con el examen de sus trabajos y la relación de ellos con su vida y con el movimiento modernista.

Con el propósito de lograr la meta señalada anteriormente, se ha ordenado este estudio según el plan siguiente: el primer capítulo es de índole biográfica; el segundo va dedicado al estudio de su obra; el tercero está consagrado al análisis de “el amor” bajo sus distintos aspectos en la obra de Nervo; el cuarto contiene un estudio de la influencia del modernismo en la obra del poeta. En el capítulo quinto, el último, se discuten algunos de los juicios literarios que se han asentado sobre el poeta, así como los resultados de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo en este estudio.

Abstract in English:

The most casual reader of Amado Nuevo cannot help but notice that love is a very important theme in his work. However, in spite of much being written about the poet, it is strange that the critics have dedicated so little attention to this aspect of his work. Why such neglect? Why do the critics think that this theme is so linked to their doubts regarding the mysteries of life and mysticism? Whatever may be the response to these questions, it was this mentioned neglect that pushed me to undertake this study of the admired Mexican poet. It also drew my attention that Nervo, who trained in a Catholic and conservative environment, finished by accepting the aesthetic values of the modernist movement, values that did not always coincide with the family and school environment.

With the objective of investigating the role that love played in the work of Nervo, I undertook this study with an examination of his works and the relationship of those works with his life and with the modernist movement.

With the purpose of arriving at the goal I mentioned earlier, I have organized this study according to the following plan: the first chapter is of a biographical nature; the second is dedicated to the study of his work; the third is devoted to the analysis of “love” under the various aspects of Nervo’s work; the fourth contains a study of the influence of modernism on the poet’s work. In the fifth chapter, the last, we will discuss some of the literary criticisms that have been made of the poet, as well as the results of investigations made in this study.
