Abstract

Germany’s Russian policy from the Machtergreifung through 1934 may be divided into three general stages: initial continuity, a double-edged challenge to this continuity, and the consideration and refusal of this challenge. This study focuses on the history and documentation during these three periods and on Germany’s changing relationship with Russia in particular, during the Weimar era and the early era of the Nazi regime under Adolf Hitler.
