Abstract

The present study was planned to compare the response of hybrids and varieties planted at different rates and dates. In addition to determining differences in yield, other agronomic characters: date of blooming, plant height, head length, grain weight per head, number of seeds per head, and weight of seed per unit volume were studied. The experiment was conducted to determine the yields of 8 varieties and 8 hybrids of grain sorghum planted over a range of dates from early to late. Plantings were made in 1963 at Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 18, May 24, June 4 and June 14. Other agronomic characters were studied to explain the variation in yield due to dates and rates.
