Abstract

This study was designed to gain further knowledge about the development of the number concept in the child. A test was developed to measure provoked and spontaneous one-to-one correspondence. A specific attempt was made to test some aspects of Piaget’s theory by comparing the results of the one-to-one correspondence test with the stereognostic recognition of objects and shapes test (Lorendeau, and Pinard, 1970). The children tested were compared on the basis of age, sex, and socio-economic status.
