Abstract

It is the purpose of this study to survey the status of the speech education programs in the public two-year colleges in Missouri. The problem is twofold: (1) to find out what the status of the departments, course offerings, staff, facilities, and extra-curricular activities in the two-year colleges of Missouri is and, (2) to see how the two-year colleges compare with other Missouri colleges, specifically liberal arts colleges, state colleges, and the state university.

It is necessary to clarify the term “two-year college”.The author defines this term as an institution which is called junior college and/or community college. In this study, these three terms are used interchangeably to refer to the schools that offer two years of collegiate instruction and/or include in its curriculum various programs which prepare students to enter different vocations and serve the educational needs of the community.
