Abstract

The main objective of this investigation was to determine the number and action of male fertility restorer genes in sterile cytoplasm for two restorer lines. The lines investigated were ‘Primepi’ and derivatives of the tetraploid species Triticum paleocolchicum Men. The genetic inheritance was studied by analysis of segregation in the F2 and backcrosses. An additional objective was to ascertain whether pollen viability was a reliable method of determining fertility as compared to the method of bagged-head observations determining fertility through actual seed set.
