Abstract

Materials handling costs can be reduced by utilizing modern handling equipment which will move large quantities of materials rapidly and economically. Materials handling costs can also be reduced by reducing the amount of moving which must be done. This can be accomplished only through good plant layout.

The primary aim of this thesis is to present a method of solving plant layout problems which will consider volumes of products, distances moved, and also the importance attached to various moves of materials. This will result in a more realistic approach to the problem.
