Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to outline and discuss the soil management problems of Furnas County in relation to the characteristics of the soils. The soil problems of a section are often much more than problems of series and type per se.They are modified or complicated by features of geography, climate, etc. This is particularly the case in Furnas County where Republican River and several important tributaries have produced a greater diversity of relief than is found in some Nebraska counties, and where it is not possible to supplement the naturally inadequate rainfall to any large extend by irrigation as it is in several other counties. For these reasons this thesis will include a discussion of physiographic and climatic as well as soil relations.
