José Ortega y Gasset es un español notable.Su vida y sus obras han logrado prominencia muy merecida en las corrientes intelectuales contemporáneas.

En este trabajo nos proponemos presentar algunos aspectos del ilustre pensador castellano tanto en lo que se refiere a su persona como a sus obras.El fin principal tiene que ver con éstas; sólo nos ocuparemos de las que tratan sobre España y sus problemas.No pretendemos una exposición completa; intentamos esbozar el tema, que consideramos primordial en la producción orteguiana, esforzándonos en hacer resaltar los puntos básicos de la cuestión.

Al constatar que no existe una biografía de Ortega, sino que esta clase de información se halla esparcida en infinidad de publicaciones, nos damos a la tarea de hacer una compilación de datos que presentan en conjunto la trayectoria orteguiana hasta la fecha. Este es el propósito del primer capítulo.

A fin de categorizar el contorno del escritor y su obra, traemos a colación la opinion crítica.Es este consiste el segundo capítulo, advirtiendo de paso que condensamos el material disponible, ya que dentro del marco de este trabajo ocupa una función complementaria.

Pasamos luego a considerar aquellas obras de Ortega que, con su carácter analítico, pesan sobre España y sus problemas. En este tercer capítulo inyectamos, además, críticas y comentarios con el propósito de redondear el tema y aclarar los conceptos.

Por último, examinamos la topografía española y la naturaleza de sus gentes con la ayuda del ojo avizor de Ortega.Este capítulo, el cuarto, completa la temática orteguiana inspirada por España.

En las obras de Ortega encontramos con frecuencia conceptos de naturaleza tan abstracta que son harto difíciles de probar.Sin embargo, su poder sugestivo es tal, que se hace imposible la indiferencia.Es por esto que, sin querer ser polemistas, intentamos mantener una posición frente a aquellas partes de la obra de Ortega que demanden comentario.Diferimos también de los críticos o aceptamos su opinión cuando lo creemos adecuado.

Abstract in English:

José Ortega y Gasset is a notable Spanish person. His life and his works have achieved well-deserved prominence in contemporary intellectual currents.

In this work, we propose to present some aspects of this illustrious Spanish thinker as regards both his person and his works. The main purpose has to do with this; we will only occupy ourselves with that which has to do with Spain and its problems. We will not attempt a complete exposition; we will try to outline the main idea, that which is most important in Ortega’s works, making an effort to emphasize the basic points of the question.

As there is not a biography of Ortega, but this type of information is scattered in a large number of publications, we are giving ourselves to the work of compiling the data presented to show Ortega’s career to date. This is the purpose of the first chapter.

After categorizing the outline of the writer and his work, we will bring in critical opinion. The second chapter focuses on this, noting in passing that we are condensing the available material so that it takes a complementary role within the framework of this paper.

We then continue to consider those works of Ortega that, with his analytic character, weigh Spain and its problems. In this third chapter we also interject critiques and commentaries with the purpose of rounding out the discussion and clarifying its concepts.

Finally, we examine the Spanish topography and the character of its people with the help of Ortega’s sharp eye. This chapter, the fourth, completes the Ortegan theme inspired by Spain.

In the works of Ortega we frequently encounter concepts of character so abstract that it is very difficult to prove. However, his power of suggestion is such that it makes indifference impossible. It is for this reason that, without wanting to be polemicists, we intend to maintain a strong position on those parts of Ortega’s work that demand commentary. We also defer to the critics and accept their opinion when we believe it to be adequate.
