Abstract

A modification of Stadler’s (1944) suggested procedure for gamete sampling was used in this study for the improvement of two inbred lines, N6 and N15. These lines are used in the double-cross hybrid A.E.S. 806, whose pedigree is (Wf9 x Hy) x (N6 x N15). A Pioneer Composite and Reid Yellow Dent Variety (Gillin strain) were selected as gamete sources for the improvement of N6 and N15, respectively. The results indicate that selection of gamete sources from a preliminary testcross evaluation would aid in the search of superior gamete combinations for subsequent line improvement.
