Abstract
The Nebraska Business Forecast Council expects that jobs will continue to grow in Nebraska; but, the rate of job growth will slow as labor markets in Nebraska and surrounding states continue to tighten. Nebraska's total nonfarm jobs will grow just under 2 percent in both 1999 and 2000. Total job growth then will slow to 1.6 percent in 2001 (Figure 1).
In addition to restraining job growth, tight labor markets will exert upward pressure on wages. Moderate job growth, combined with increasing wage rates, will yield moderately rapid growth in wages and salaries. Consequently, total nonfarm personal income will increase by about 5 percent each year of the forecast period-1999 through 2001.
