Abstract
Second quarter (April-June) 1997 business conditions survey results indicate that the state's economy continues to expand at a healthy pace with no evidence of a slowdown. Substantial numbers of the reporting businesses continue to indicate gains in operating revenues. Only 21 percent reported a decrease in 2nd quarter earnings over 1st quarter earnings. Only 25 percent reported a decrease in 2nd quarter 1997 earnings over 2nd quarter 1996 earnings.
Creation of new jobs across the state continues to grow at a nearly constant rate. At the state level, the survey shows that new job growth is averaging about 20,000 full-time jobs each quarter. Generally, the state's metro and non-metro counties are sharing about equally in new job growth.
