High-School Curricular Patterns As Related to Academic Success at the University of Nebraska

ARTHUR C. F GILBERT, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relation- ship that exists between high school curricular patterns and academic success at the University of Nebraska. In general, college admissions practices seem to be based on the assumption that the completion of specific courses at the high school level constitutes desirable preparation for college and will increase the likelihood of success in the college curriculum for which it has been pre- scribed. The validity of such an assumption has been questioned by the findings of some studies whereas the findings of others tend to justify such a practice.
