FIRST SYNTHESIS OF ISOMERIC ARYLACETYLETHYLENIMINES AND STUDY OF STERIC CONTROLS OPERATING IN INTERMEDIATES TO AROYLARYLETHYLENIMINE FORMATION

ROGER P CAHOY, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Several investigations of open chain L, B-unsaturated ketones and the related endocyclic compounds have been under taken by Cromwell, et al. The structure of the addition products formed by the addition of amines to 2-bromo-d, β -unsaturated ketones (I) has been shown to be of thef-bromo-B amino ketone type (II). These active intermediates were most readily isolated when the amine was of relatively high molecular weight and of considerable basic strength. Intermediates of type (II) have been observed to react further by paths (1), (2) and (3).
